Welcome to Shanks

Shanks is a leading international sustainable waste management business.

The driving forces behind our industry are climate change, fossil fuel dependency and society's need to manage waste without damaging the environment. Shanks Group uses sustainable and cost-effective technologies to make valuable products from what is thrown away. We produce green energy, recovered fuel, recycled commodities and organic fertiliser, while generating favourable returns for our shareholders. With over 4,000 employees and operations in the Netherlands, Belgium, UK and Canada, Shanks is at the forefront in providing sustainable waste management solutions for both the private and public sector.

The UK business employs around 800 people and principally comprises solid waste collection and recycling, municipal PFI/PPP contracts and organics processing which results in sustainable renewable electricity generation fed into the national grid.
