Roland Williams – Director Shanks Contaminated Land Services & Rail
Roland has more than 20 years’ experience in the waste industry and the management of landfill and contaminated land. In 1996 he successfully set up Shanks Contaminated Land Services. He is responsible for managing contaminated land and rail haulage for all the company’s material streams. Roland started his career in waste management for Biffa Waste Services in 1982, then joined Shanks four years later and has held several key positions, including Landfill Development Manager, General Manager and now Director.
John Hodder – Business Development Manager North England & Wales
John has a HND in Land Surveying, HND in Civil Engineering and WAMITAB level 4 in Landfilling including hazardous waste and on site treatment. John has 11 years experience in the waste industry in various roles including site manager, area manager, sales and business development. Before joining Shanks, John worked for 20 years in the building and civil engineering industry and five years in land surveying in the UK and overseas.
Nigel Wellsbury – Senior technical Manager
Nigel Wellsbury has a BSc Hons in Geology and an MSc in Environmental Water Management. Nigel joined Shanks in 1994 after previous employment in the oil industry. After a spell as a landfill chemist, he joined the Contaminated Land team and now manages 3 technical managers. His role also includes technical and commercial assessment of bulk waste enquiries for the various treatment, re-use and disposal options offered by Shanks. Nigel represents Shanks on various industry bodies including SAGTA, EIC and EA working groups.
Digory Little – Contracts Manager
Digory Little has a BSc Hons degree in engineering and surveying, a BTEC HND in engineering and surveying and CoTC level 4 in Managing landfill operations-special waste. Digory has worked for Shanks since 1997 and has considerable experience in waste management having held engineering and management positions at large scale waste facilities. He is in charge of project management of restoration and recovering operations and haulage of bulk waste materials (hazardous, non-hazardous and inert) by road and rail. Digory also has procurement responsibilities for brownfield remediation tenders and liaison with regulatory authorities.
