Biologic bioremediation
Bio-logic, Shanks’ specialist bioremediation company, is the most successful of its kind in the UK. It is also the country’s only fast bioremediation system, with state-of-the-art soil conditioning equipment which can achieve average cost savings of 50 per cent over landfill.
Soil washing
Solvent is added to the soil which causes the hydrocarbon contaminants to part. This solvent oil mixture then separates. The oil is sold as waste oil and the remaining water is recycled or discharged into sewers. Finally, the washed soil is used as engineering fill. Unlike other washing systems, all contamination is removed and all process material is recovered and reused.
Excavation, haulage and disposal
Shanks excavates and transports contaminated soils to landfill facilities across the UK. We can advise on and assess laboratory analysis for waste soil classification and determine the best disposal options.
Stabilisation
Lime and grout mixtures are added to soils to stabilise the contaminants and solidify the material for transportation. This can be used in construction as general fill material.
Landfill and brownfield site restoration Shanks restores sites with a variety of materials, including imported soils and soils manufactured from waste products such as sewage, sludge, pulp and compost. We screen imported materials to provide a high quality final restoration.
